MRI Test Ball Shown with an Inch Ruler for Scale |
This hollow plastic sphere is used for calibration of Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI ) machines. The two halves unscrew, and tissue or fluid samples are placed inside. The ball is typically custom made with acrylic plastic. Different plastics may be used. The halves may be sealed with an O-ring. This example on the left is five inches in diameter, ( 5", 127 mm ).
